In publication since 1969, the Sixteenth Century Journal (SCJ) prints twenty to twenty-five articles and over four hundred book reviews a year. The SCJ is dedicated to providing readers with thought-provoking research and inquiry into the sixteenth century broadly defined (i.e., 1450-1648). Our articles all maintain a strong historical core and cover subjects from around the world.

In keeping with the SCJ Book Review Office’s tradition of sponsoring pedagogy essays in the SCJ and panels at the SCSC and other conferences, we will publish a special supplement to volume 51 (2020) devoted to teaching in the age of SARS CoV-19. This special Early Modern Classroom supplement will appear online at escj.org, open access, and articles will be posted as they become available, beginning in the summer of 2020. The published submissions will be peer reviewed.

The SCJ continues production work from home! In interest of safety, we have decided to hold all print copies at our main office until it is safe to mail them. All users will be able to access the electronic version on http://escj.org
50-3 is available online! Due to university closure because of COVID-19, we are not sure when the print copies will be mailed to subscribers.
We have spent the last several weeks interpreting the contradictory information we were getting from our various contacts at the USPS and then buying new equipment required to run the software it was determined we need to employ to send our journals internationally in the quarterly bulk mailing. But we are almost there. Today Kathryn and Rachel ran the first set of labels and scanned the majority of the mailing into the Global Shipping Software, and we hope to finish up all the final details Monday. If all goes well, 49/4 will be in the mail to international customers by Tuesday. Of course, there is no need to wait to read the issue if you are desperate since it is available in electronic format through this website.
